Fast track program dives into pools

A fast track program has been introduced for the Territory’s public pools to provide sustainability and facility upgrades while the pools are closed for use.

MLA for Brindabella, Joy Burch said Manuka, Dickson and Tuggeranong pool facilities would each receive an upgrade.

“The Tuggeranong Lakeside Leisure Centre will undergo an Electrical and Building Management System Upgrade with a projected saving of 2,500,000 MJ gas per annum, equivalent to around two standard schools,” Ms Burch said.

“Further energy savings will be achieved as gas-fired hot water heaters are replaced with electric heat pumps, while various WHS and general maintenance works will also occur at the Centre,” she said.

“Domestic hot water units will be replaced with electric units at both Manuka and Dickson pools, with other repairs and general maintenance underway at both.”

Ms Burch said the fast-tracked work on the public pools would provide much needed support for Canberrans and the local businesses that employed them.

She said more than 18 Canberrans from one local business had commenced work on upgrades to Tuggeranong Lakeside Leisure Centre, with work on Manuka and Dickson pools to commence at a later date.

“Importantly, the works being undertaken are also environmentally responsible and promote sustainability.

“Once these pools reopen to the public in a staged approach, Canberrans will be able to benefit from the work that has been undertaken,” Ms Burch said.
