Seventeen new dog parks are to be created across the State to give families more green open space and create jobs as Victoria rebuilds from the economic impacts of the pandemic.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio announced that $2.5 million would be allocated to create seven new dog parks in Melbourne, and 10 in regional Victoria.
Ms D’Ambrosio said the new parks would be in the city’s outer-suburbs – Pakenham, Carrum Downs, Dandenong North, Eynesbury, Belgrave, Mill Park and Altona- and the regional centres of Ararat, Buninyong, Yarragon, Portland, Kilmore, Belmont, Shepparton, Mildura, Swan Hill and Warracknabeal.
“The Mill Park and Kilmore dog parks are due to open in the coming months,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
“The remaining parks are either under construction or due to start construction before the end of the year,” she said.
“The dog park locations were chosen through an expression of interest process with local Councils and the Government is now working in partnership with these Councils to establish all the dog parks by late next year.”
Ms D’Ambrosio said the parks were part of the Government’s Building Works package.
“The 17 dog parks funded under this stimulus package are in addition to the 16 already announced, bringing the total number of new dog parks to 33,” she said.
