Families across NSW are being encouraged to get ready for the upcoming bushfire season and ensure their bushfire plan is up to date.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said NSW’s Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Resilience NSW had worked together to ensure the State was as prepared as it could be for the upcoming bushfire season.
“We are as prepared as we can be, but it’s also important the community understands the important role they play in having a well-prepared property and fire plan,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“It takes five minutes to make or improve a plan that will give your property and your family the best chance of survival should you be threatened by a bushfire,” she said.
The Department of Education said work was well underway to ensure NSW public schools were safe and prepared for the bushfire season.
The Department said its Bushfire Relief Strategy was working to enhance the preparedness of schools for future bushfire seasons and ensure student and staff wellbeing was prioritised while maintaining learning continuity.
Executive Director of Bushfire Relief Strategy at the Department of Education, Kathy Powzun said school staff in bushfire-prone areas had been provided with new resources to prepare for the 2020-2021 bushfire season.
“Our principals and their teams have been reviewing and updating their emergency plans, running drills and ensuring they’re able to communicate with their communities even during challenging times,” Ms Powzun said.
“Schools are at the heart of our communities and keeping students safe, engaged and learning is our number one priority,” she said.
