Soap are a three piece indie rock band from Brisbane. They have released one EP, Past Tense, which was dropped in August 2021.

The band is comprised of Tom Megalos (vocals/guitar), Matt Norrish (guitar/synths), and Tyler Hocking (drums).

They are part of the young brigade that is bringing high energy guitar based rock back to life.

Face2Face is a very well crafted song.

It’s got a huge sound and a great chorus and it’s the product of an experienced team who know how to produce a hit song.

The production team included Aiden Hogg (Jaguar Jones, Hope D) who took on the rhythm section, Tom Eggert (Benji Lewis, Jem Casser-Daly) concentrated on the guitar tones, and executive producer James Angus (Example, The Veronicas, Kite String Tangle) developed the vocals and brought the whole lot together.

But production didn’t end there.

Once this team had the song to the point that they couldn’t get it any better, Soap brought in Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy) to be the structural sound engineer.

The track was finally mastered by Leon Zervos (Muse, Troye Sivan).

This degree of production detail being devoted to a young inexperienced band is unusual to say the least, so the lads either had some serious money behind them or they’ve just been extremely lucky.

Whatever the reason, the outcome justifies the effort because the song is really impressive and a number of respected music journos have suggested that Soap could be the next big Aussie rock band.

I’m certainly interested and I’m interested to know what they’ll back Face2Face up with.
