The Consumer Protection Agency has announced that four extra hours of trading have been approved for general retail shops in the Perth metropolitan area on both the Labour Day and Easter Monday public holidays.
The Agency said the extensions meant general retail shops would be able to trade any time between 8am and 6pm on Monday, 7 March (Labour Day) and Monday, 18 April (Easter Monday).
“The normal permitted trading hours for these public holiday Mondays are 11am to 5pm,” the Agency said.
“The Minister for Commerce is able to vary public holiday general retail trading hours in the Perth metropolitan area, with the exception of Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day,” it said.
In a further statement the Agency said that under the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972, the Labour Day public holiday in Western Australia was always the first Monday in March.
It said entitlements for those required to work on Labour Day included State system award free employees, people who worked under any of the the Shop and Warehouse (Wholesale and Retail Establishments) Award, the Restaurant, Tearoom and Catering Workers Award and the Hairdressers Award.
“Employers and employees in the national industrial relations system should visit the Fair Work Ombudsman’s website for information on public holiday employment entitlements,” the Agency said.
“For information on other WA awards, contact Wageline on 1300 655 266.”
