Emergency executives out in the cold

Executives from the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ACTESA) have put their names down to spend a freezing night sleeping outdoors for this year’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout on 23 June.

In a statement, the Agency said Assistant ACTESA Commissioner, Corporate, Wayne Phillips; ACT Fire and Rescue Chief Officer Matthew Mavity; and ACT State Emergency Service Chief Officer, Anthony Draheim can expect to be sleeping without shelter on one of the longest nights of the year as their way to help change the lives of Australians experiencing homelessness.

“The Vinnies CEO Sleepout raises money for crisis accommodation, food, healthcare, counselling, education, employment, and support to find a permanent home for thousands of people across the country,” ACTESA said.

“Each night across the nation, more than 116,000 people don’t have a safe and secure place to live,” it said.

“Three of our ACTESA executives are participating in their first Vinnies CEO Sleepout, getting a small glimpse into what it’s like to sleep rough, all to raise awareness and funds for a worthy cause.”

ACTESA said everyone deserved a safe place to call home.

“To help break the devastating cycle of homelessness, we need your support,” it said.

“Will you help us reach our target?”
