Victorian voters have been reminded they can have reminders sent directly to their phone or email inbox at election time through a Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) reminder service.

Deputy Electoral Commissioner, Dana Fleming said the service VoterAlert sent timely reminders straight to a voter’s phone or inbox on when, where and how to vote.

Ms Fleming encouraged Victorians to sign up now so they would be ready to have their say in the November State election.

“It takes less than five minutes to sign up, and once completed it’s simply set and forget,” Ms Fleming said.

“We’ll send you a reminder when you need to take action, and we’ll also directly deliver this year’s digital EasyVote Guide direct to your phone or inbox,” she said.

“We’re running an advertising campaign to encourage more Victorians to Be VoterAlert and get ready to vote in this year’s State election.”

In a statement, the Electoral Commission said people could choose to receive the reminders via SMS, email, or both.

“You can unsubscribe from VoterAlert at any time by updating your preferences in Check my enrolment,” the VEC said.

“You will also see an option to unsubscribe at the bottom of every VoterAlert message you receive.”

The VEC warned that a delayed or unsent VoterAlert did not excuse people from voting.

VoterAlert is only a prompt, and occasionally due to circumstances outside our control, a VoterAlert may be delayed or not received,” it said.

Victorians can sign up for the VEC’s VoterAlert service at this PS News link.
