Canberrans have been given more time to have their say on the 2020 ACT Election as the Legislative Assembly has extended the closing date for submissions to its inquiry to 30 April.
Chair of the Assembly’s Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety, Jeremy Hanson said that after receiving some early requests for an extension of time, the Committee agreed to allow all submitters the same opportunity to participate in the inquiry.
Mr Hanson said a wide range of topics were open for discussion, including the impact of COVID-19 on the election; the timeframe and accessibility of early voting; the number and location of polling places; systems for electronic voting; the duration of the campaign period; restrictions on roadside signage; the donation rules; voter turnout and participation in elections; restrictions on campaigning activities outside polling places; and potentially lowering the voting age.
“There are few rules for submissions, only that they must be relevant, written and received before the closing date,” Mr Hanson said.
“Include your name, phone number, and postal and email addresses, before sending your submission in either digital or physical form,” he said.
