Education Week is to be held in August again this year with both city and country launching their events on the same day, 5 August.
Highlighting the theme for the week ‘Every student, every voice,’ the opening events will be held at St Mary’s North Public School and Dubbo College, Senior Campus.
Secretary of the Department of Education, Mark Scott said Education Week was a great opportunity for public schools and teachers to showcase how the students’ voices were recognised within their school community.
“Through the theme of ‘Every student, every voice’, we aim to highlight how the NSW public education system gives students the skills they need in order to have and express a voice and how as a system we are committed to listening to student voices,” Mr. Scott said.
“Student empowerment is at the heart of this process and reflects how a student’s voice actively shapes their educational journey.”
He said the launch will be Broadcast live with the event to move between the two host schools.
Mr Scott said that with 2019 being the UN International Year of Indigenous Languages, Education Week will also highlight the role languages play in people’s lives.
He said the key messages for Education Week 2019 would be: Authentic participation, Partners in learning, Respectful relationships, Connecting communities and, Change makers.
For the second year Education Week will include the ‘Game Changer Challenge’ with 16 teams from across NSW coming together to address the question: ‘How might we humanise technology?’
