Education reports get top marks

Two reports on the future of education in the ACT have been released by the Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development, Yvette Berry.

Ms Berry said the Future of Education Consultation Report and the Research Report outlined the basis of the Future of Education Strategy (released in August) and the actions it contained.

“The Future of Education conversation occurred through a thorough discussion with the community, involving nearly 5,000 people (including students) as well as an in-depth look at educational research nationally and internationally,” Ms Berry said.

“The Government examined research from a wide variety of published sources, including some studies suggested by the community, and the Research Report provides a synopsis of several of those papers.”

She said that while community feedback was crucial in developing the Future of Education vision, the strategy was also firmly grounded in research and evidence.

“The research affirmed many of the ideas raised by the community, which is a reflection of how engaged the people in Canberra are with issues that matter to them,” Ms Berry said.

“The Future of Education Strategy aims to make sure every child receives a great education and the life chances that flow from it.”

She said the Education Directorate was working on the actions in the first phase of the strategy with an emphasis on empowering each student to choose their own educational pathway.

The strategy would also ensure teachers were highly skilled at engaging and supporting students through their learning journeys.
