DTA takes next step at Digital Identity

The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) has launched the second phase of consultation on what the future of Digital Identity could look like in Australia.

In a statement, the DTA said consultation would inform the development of the Digital Identity legislation to expand Australia’s Digital Identity system into a whole-of-economy solution and offer access to State, Territory, Local Government and private sector services.

“Phase two of our three-phased consultation process is now underway and we’re inviting you to have your say,” the DTA said.

“Our aim is to establish permanent governance arrangements for the system and enshrine in law a range of consumer protections,” it said.

“We’re now engaging with stakeholders and the public by seeking feedback on the Digital Identity Legislation Position Paper.”

The DTA said consultation would provide clarity on the structure of the legislation; scope of the legislation and interoperability with other systems; regulatory oversight of the system; privacy and consumer safeguards; trustmarks; liability and redress framework; penalties and enforcement; as well as the administration of changes for the system.

“We’re encouraging anyone who has an interest in Digital Identity to have their say on the Position Paper,” the Agency said.

It said the Position Paper was open for consultation until 14 July and the legislation was expected to be considered by Parliament later this year.

The DTA’s Position Paper, including information on how to have a say, can be viewed online at this PS News link.
