Business Events Victoria has released details of a new initiative that calls upon the Public Service and private industry to hold multi-day events in bushfire-affected areas of regional Victoria.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Martin Pakula said 115 organisations had so far pledged to hold events in affected regions as part of the Business & Sport for Bushfire Recovery program.

Mr Andrews said the Government expected more organisations from the corporate, sports and Government sectors to come forward and support the recovery program.

“These bushfires have devastated communities, with businesses taking a massive hit during what is normally their busiest time of the year,” Mr Andrews said.

“I encourage everyone to follow the lead of these organisations and visit and spend money in these bushfire affected communities,” he said.

Mr Andrews said Visit Victoria would also launch a range of marketing activities to promote experiences on offer for visitors to regional Victoria.

Mr Pakula said money spent by visiting groups would make a huge difference to the economies of affected towns.
