Whoever said the good residents of Queensland were a relaxed group were certainly in the right if a recent press release relating to a local government project from the State is any guide.
Reporting that the State’s Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning was to assist a Council with a housing supply and diversity strategy, the official statement of the impressive program kept the Deputy Premier on the ground.
Signing off the press release as “The Honourable Dr Steven Miles” the Minister was quoted in the release top to bottom, six times, as “Mr Miles”.
PS-sssst! wouldn’t be surprised if the Minister didn’t prescribe tranquilisers for himself after that faux pas.
In time we trust
Great idea from South Australia a week or so back when a Department which will remain anonymous, launched a smart ‘Plan Ahead Week’ project, encouraging the good people of the State to reduce their stress and other tensions by organising their activities well ahead of time
“Plan Ahead Week, which runs from 12 – 18 September, encourages all adults to think about their financial, health, legal and personal wishes, and how they can ensure they are known and respected,” the organisers proclaimed.
“It’s never too early to plan ahead for the future and I encourage all adults to take action to safeguard their rights and wishes today,” a spokesperson said.
Only small observation that might have slowed things down was that the official announcement was released on 12 September, making the “never too early to plan ahead for the future” a little late for many media organisations who need a day or more to ‘plan ahead’ to get their act together.
Maybe next year!!
Coming here orphan?
Prize time at PS News now with another delightful book giveaway to be played for by readers of a book review from Rama Gaind simply by answering her quirky quiz question.
This week’s prize is one of two copies of Dominique Wilson’s intriguing visit to the history of Sydney in her impressive novel Orphan Rock.
To join Rama’s winners of the week, all we needed to do was tell her what the basic details were outlined by Ms Wilson in her Orphan Rock.
The answer is the book’s detailed story of the secrets and heartbreak in the back streets of Sydney’s slums and the two lucky winners whose entries scrambled from PS News’s Barrel of Booty came from Heath J of Services Australia, and Ros M from the Federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
Congratulations Heath and Ros and thanks to everyone who joined in Rama’s challenge. Their prizes will be on their way to their new owners very soon. There!
To join in the chance to be another PS News winner, simply visit Rama’s weekly reviews in PS News, one of the Book Lonely Planet’s Experience Guides: Iceland at this PS News link and/or this Book Homeforce at this link and take your chances in her good and greathearted giveaway.
And jolly good luck to everyone who does!
Rama goes drama!
And while we’re in the presence of multi-skilled Rama Gaind, it is PS News’s professional pleasure to point out that she has stepped up to put her towering talents to work and produce the very popular weekly movie review as of this week.
Already reviewing the latest in books, travel and Picks of the Flicks for grateful PS News readers planning their time off, Rama will now save them the risk of spending valuable time finding out that the director’s promotion of a film is not quite as accurate as it is in real life.
So sit back, visit Rama ‘At the Movies’, and find out whether that film we’re thinking of going to is really worth our valuable time and effort.
Yet another reason to read PS News where the reader is the winner!
Literary litter?
And finally, another special contribution from the special Philomena S of the Victorian Department of Health now, this time with a dabble of literate literaries.
Why, asks the easily askable Philomena, do we have the 5-letter word ‘Queue’ in the English language when we only use the first letter, ‘Q’ and ignore the rest?
Why do we recite in a play but play in a recital?; We drive in parkways and park in driveways?’; Cars carry shipments but ships carry cargoes?
Enough!
Till next week….
