Dino-mites find holiday fun in museum

Museums Victoria has launched a program of school holiday activities for curious kids and their dinosaur-loving parents.

Announcing the program, Museums Victoria said that, from 9 April, families could learn about Melbourne Museum’s newest resident, Horridus the Triceratops. with an array of programs for budding palaeontologists.

“Splash into Scienceworks to explore a wave of water-led activities, enjoy cultural festivities at Immigration Museum and experience exclusive new screenings at IMAX,” Museums Victoria said.

Highlights of the school holiday program include Triceratops Dino Dig (11-17 April) at Melbourne Museum, where children of all ages will be welcomed at Federation Square to dig, discover and uncover fossilized Triceratops bones.

“The Melbourne Museum’s Triceratops Dino Dig will be a not-to-be-missed immersive experience that will bring out the palaeontologist in everyone,” Museums Victoria said.

“Prizes are up for grabs, and families will be able to remember the day out with a dino-themed snap,” it said.

“Complete your dino expedition at Melbourne Museum’s Triceratops: Fate of the Dinosaurs exhibition.”

Museums Victoria said kids could also build their own Triceratops 3D mask, create their own augmented reality Triceratops, and direct their own TV ad at Melbourne Museum.

It said Immigration Museum was hosting a Night at the Museum party for under-18s on 9 April, while Scienceworks had a range of water-themed activities available for school kids, including pumping station tours, demonstrations and a hunt for ‘Wanda’ the water droplet.
