Service NSW is to extend its trial of Digital Photo Cards following a successful pilot in Sydney’s Penrith area.
Minister for Customer Service, Victor Dominello said that as of last week (26 March) residents of Blacktown, and surrounding suburbs, who had a plastic NSW photo card ID could access a digital version through the Service NSW app.
“The Digital Photo Card trial is off to a great start, receiving a 98 per cent thumbs up rating from customers,” Mr Dominello said.
“We’re pleased to start sharing the convenience of this practical digital innovation with more NSW Photo Card holders,” he said.
“As with the Digital Driver Licence, the Digital Photo Card gives you the convenience of having your ID stored on your phone, meaning it’s never far from your fingertips.”
Mr Dominello said the trial would continue to test the functionality and effectiveness of the Digital Photo Card ahead of a State-wide rollout.
He said that during the trial, plastic Photo Card holders in the areas would be able to use their mobile device to enter licensed venues and transact with other businesses who checked ID such as major retailers, and pharmacies.
“The Digital Photo Card is hosted securely on the Service NSW app, which is locked with a PIN,” he said.
Mr Dominello said the Digital Photo Card remained available offline if the card holder was logged into the Service NSW app.
He said the extended trial zone included postcodes 2148; 2767; 2766; 2760; 2759; and 2770.
