The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage has called for suitable applicants to apply for the position of Government Architect and help shape the future development growth of the State.
In a statement, the Department said the position provided design leadership and strategic advice to ensure good design was at the centre of all development and major projects.
“The Government Architect also heads the State Design Review Panel, ensuring Design WA policies are central to all development, and will also support the newly proposed Special Matters Development Assessment Panel, which will consider major developments to support our post-pandemic economic recovery,” the Department said.
“The successful candidate will also play a key role in the design and development of METRONET precincts, major infrastructure projects and significant commercial, industrial and residential developments that will create vibrant communities and breathe new life into existing neighbourhoods.”
It said the successful candidate would be a leading advocate for good architecture and design, collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, and form effective partnerships with industry to develop a shared vision for high-quality development in Western Australia.
Minister for Planning, Rita Saffioti said good design was fundamental to creating great places for people to live.
“Current planning reform measures will open new opportunities and encourage exciting development proposals from both the public and private sector, including local community infrastructure, road and rail networks and more complex mixed-use developments,” Ms Saffioti said.
Applications for the Government Architect position close on 17 June with more information including remuneration, position statement and application criteria can be accessed from this PS News link.
