COVID closes gates on ACT parks

The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has closed some of the Territory’s parks and reserves due to COVID-19 public health directions.

The Directorate said nine parks would be closed until further notice, including Namadgi National Park; Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve; Lower Cotter Catchment; Cotter precinct; Kambah Pool; Uriarra Crossing; Woods Reserve Campground; Northern Borders Campground; and Googong Foreshores.

“The remainder of parks and reserves throughout Canberra will remain open and provide opportunities for people to access these areas for their daily hour of exercise,” the Directorate said.

“Vehicle access to Pine Island is not permitted,” it said.

“Government asks Canberrans not to leave their local region to visit the parks and reserves that remain open.”

The Directorate said face masks must be carried at all times and worn by everyone aged 12 years and over outside the home.

It said people planning a visit to a park or reserve should continue to follow general safety advice, such as being weather aware; sun smart; knowing the risks associated with bushfires; taking their rubbish home; as well as being considerate to other park users, animals and plant ecosystems.
