The ACT Emergency Services Agency has released a new-look ‘Survival Plan’ to assist Canberra’s community to prepare for most emergencies.

Announced by the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman the Survival Plan is a tool for people to prepare for bushfires, extreme heat, storms, and floods – all in the one plan.

“Emergencies can strike at anytime, anywhere and without warning,” Mr Gentleman said.

“Evidence shows that being prepared for a range of natural disasters can reduce damage to homes, the risk of injury and save you money,” he said.

“Residents who are well prepared also reduce the pressure on emergency services personnel responding to an emergency.”

He urged all Canberrans to complete the ESA’s Survival Plan and keep it in their emergency kit for when they need it.

“You can complete your plan online and save on any device, making it easy to share with family and friends and update each year,” Mr Gentleman said.

ACTESA Commissioner Georgeina Whelan said ensuring that you and your home are well prepared is the best action you can take to survive an emergency.

“Over the past 12 months the ACT community has seen several unprecedented events,” Commissioner Whelan said.

“Earlier this year Canberrans were preparing for bushfires when a major hailstorm impacted the ACT. This shows us that now, more than ever, we need to be prepared all year round for any emergency that we may experience,” she said.

“The new Survival Plan uses four simple steps to get you emergency ready for bushfire, extreme heat, storm, and flood.”
