Parks Victoria has invited community members to have their say on what 1,000 hectares of new and improved parks in Melbourne’s western and south eastern suburbs should look like.
Minister for the Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio said new parks would be created at Clyde, Werribee and Deanside, and improvement would be made to two parks in Werribee and Melton South.
Ms D’Ambroiso said the new and improved parks were part of the Suburban Parks Program, to provide 6,500 hectares of new and upgraded, accessible green space for communities in Melbourne’s growing outer suburbs.
“This is an important milestone for people in Melbourne’s growing western and south eastern suburbs, and I urge everyone who is looking forward to these parks to have their say on what they will look like,” Ms D’Ambroiso said.
“These parks will make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of people in these communities – providing green open space for people to stretch the legs, clear the head and catch up with friends,” she said.
“Parks improve people’s health and wellbeing – including by reducing social isolation – and are important for our environment – protecting creek corridors and conservation areas, and contributing to efforts to tackle climate change.”
Ms D’Ambroiso said people could have a say on the parks until 27 June, after which plans would be developed by Parks Victoria and shared with the community for input.
