The Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources has invited public comment on proposed amendments to its National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGER).
The scheme measures greenhouse gas emissions, energy production and consumption.
According to the Department it is a single national framework for reporting company information about greenhouse gas emissions, energy production and energy consumption
In a statement, the Department said it was interested in hearing views on the practical application of proposed changes.
“This will help us finalise the draft amendments, which will be legislative instruments for the Legislation Act 2003,” the Department said.
It said the 2021 NGER Amendments introduced a new method, providing explicit reporting guidance for hydrogen production facilities whose primary product was hydrogen for use outside of the facility.
A further change expanded on the method for estimating fugitive emissions from the transport and injection of greenhouse gases for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) to also include Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR).
Methods for updating the estimation of fugitive emissions from oil and natural gas facilities were proposed in order to reflect the latest available research as well as the results of Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) programs.
The Department said the consultation would inform the finalisation of the draft amendment instruments.
