Nominations are now open for appointments to the ACT Place Names Advisory Committee.
Acting Minister for Planning and Land Management, Chris Steel encouraged interested community members to join the Committee.
“The committee provides expert advice and recommendations to the Government on all significant matters relating to place naming in the ACT,” Mr Steel said.
“We are looking for new members from across the ACT with a strong understanding of, and connection to the community to help protect and enhance the values of our Territory through the ACT Place Names Advisory Committee,” he said.
“We recognise that there is a wide variety of perspectives within the ACT, which is why the new Committee members will be appointed from a broad range of diverse backgrounds, including our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.”
Mr Steel said membership of the Committee was on a voluntary basis and would be appointed for a period of three years.
“I encourage interested community members to take advantage of these vacancies and submit an application,” the Minister said.
He said nominations for the Committee were open until 22 March.
Surveyor-General of the ACT and Co-chair of the ACT Place Names Advisory Committee, Jeff Brown said he valued the expert advice of the Committee to help provide new place names which were reflective of diverse cultural situations.
