Canberra commuters are to navigate a series of road closures throughout the city soon as work to beautify the Odgers and Verity Lanes and install traffic lights at Coranderrk Street and Parkes Way commence.
Detailing the traffic disruptions, City Services said the Odgers and Verity Lanes were to receive a makeover with more outdoor dining, festoon lighting, heritage tree protection, new paving, new landscaping and stormwater upgrades.
“Fencing has been erected and earthworks have begun in Verity Lane ahead of major works commencing later in September,” City Services said.
“The most disruptive works involve weekday lane closures and two weekend road closures along London Circuit which are planned for September and October,” it said.
“Some of these closures will impact bus routes with signed detours in place for all road users. Pedestrian access will be maintained.”
City Services said there was currently a single lane closure along London Circuit at Odgers Lane and the bus lane was closed at Verity Lane for watermain works.
It said construction was delayed due to nationwide material supply shortages and the works were anticipated to continue into early 2023.
The Directorate said reduced speed limits and occasional lane closures could be expected over the next three weeks as works to signalise the roundabout intersection of Coranderrk Street and Parkes Way commenced.
“From September, road users will experience a combination of dayworks and nightworks with the majority of works scheduled at night where possible to minimise impacts to traffic,” City Services said.
“There will be westbound road closures across four non-consecutive weekends in coming months as well as both eastbound and westbound lane closures during nightshifts.”
