The Department of Justice and Community Safety has made securing and using the ‘Working with Children Check’ much more accessible, with required people now able to apply for and display a digital version of the Card on the Service Victoria app.

According to the State Government, more than 2,000 Victorians have already taken advantage of the digitisation of the Working with Children Check card since it was introduced in late February, meaning they will no longer need to carry a physical card.

The Government said it meant people can easily and securely apply for, update, and renew their clearance through the app – with a robust application process.

“The Check is a vital tool for assessing people who work with or care for children in Victoria – ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children across the state,” it said.

“More than 1.7 million Victorians have a current Working with Children Check, with over 10,000 organisations across the state working directly with children, including educational institutions, sporting clubs, paediatric health providers and child protection services.”

Minister for Government Services Danny Pearson said the option of displaying a digital Working with Children Check would benefit Victorians from all walks of life, making it easier for them to prove their credentials using the Service Victoria app.

“We’re putting people first by digitising services – the digital wallet is a key part of our work to streamline key transactions and make them more accessible for Victorians,” Minister Pearson said.

“Organisations can scan the QR code on the digital Card on the Service Victoria app to see if the Check is valid, showing the person’s status in real-time, although clearance holders can continue to use their physical Card if preferred,” he said.

The State Government said the Working with Children Check card joins the digital fishing licence and ambulance membership available in the Service Victoria app, with more cards to be added.

It said if you are a current clearance-holder and wish to obtain a digital Working with Children Check card, download the app or visit this Victoria Service website via this PS News link.
