The Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport has launched one of its biggest-ever tourism promotional campaigns.

The Great Queensland Getaway is an $8 million project offering big discounts on flights, accommodation and tourism experiences to incentivise Queenslanders to book a local holiday.

Minister for Tourism, Stirling Hinchliffe said the Great Queensland Getaway was part of the Government’s COVID-19 recovery plan for tourism.

“With our two biggest customers, NSW and Victoria, unable to travel, this is a great opportunity for Queenslanders to explore our State and support tourism operators,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“We’re rewarding Queenslanders for their great work on managing the health impacts of the pandemic and helping to boost COVID-19 vaccinations,” he said.

Mr Hinchliffe said being part of the Great Queensland Getaway was helping local businesses in tourism destinations across the State.

Chief Executive Officer of travel bureau MyQueensland, Josh Thomas said a range of holiday packages would be available to be booked.

“As a Queensland-based business, we are proud to work with the Government and Virgin Australia on a campaign that supports our local tourism operators,” Mr Thomas said.

“Our team of MyQueensland experts have curated a range of exclusive packages that embrace the incredible experiences Queensland has to offer,” he said.

“Coupled with the incredible air stimulus, there has never been a better time to explore our beautiful backyard.”

The Great Queensland Getaway campaign ends on 31 October unless sold out and travel can be taken until 12 December for airfares, or until 23 January 2022 for all other deals.
