All businesses, venues and facilities restricted under the public health directions are to be required to register for and use the Check In CBR app in time for this Saturday, 6 March.

Minister for Business and Better Regulation, Tara Cheyne said that after Saturday, any restricted businesses that weren’t using the app would no longer be compliant with the public health directions and penalties may apply.

“It will also be mandatory for patrons to check in with Check In CBR,” Ms Cheyne said.

“Restricted businesses, venues and facilities must take reasonable steps to ensure patrons check in,” she said.

“Importantly, a new business profile function on the app has been introduced to help businesses to check in people who may not have a smart phone or are unable to do so themselves.”

Ms Cheyne said over 8,000 businesses and venues had already registered with the Check In CBR app, and over 396,000 people had downloaded it.

“Canberrans should feel assured that their information will only be accessed if needed for contact tracing purposes,” the Minister said.

“The information will not be accessed for any other purpose, contact details are also deleted after 28 days,” she said.

Ms Cheyne said compliance and enforcement Agencies would continue to ensure businesses were following the public health directions and businesses that failed to comply could be issued with an infringement notice.

Check In CBR is free, easy and secure to implement and use, and importantly, provides the ability to contact trace quickly and accurately should there be a new case of COVID-19 reported in the ACT,” she said.
