Transport Canberra’s dedicated school bus services are gearing up to hit the road once again as more students head back to the classroom next week.

Deputy Director-General of the Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate, Ben McHugh said more than 230 school buses would resume services from Monday (25 October).

“As school services return, we will continue with the current interim bus timetable on the broader network to ensure regular and frequent services for other users,” Mr McHugh said.

“We ask that everyone using public transport, particularly parents and carers, visit our website and check their travel times,” he said.

“We have made a range of timing changes to both school and regular services to provide better connections across the day for students travelling.”

Mr McHugh said the interim timetable currently operating across the broader network provided a high level of frequency, with most Rapids running at least every 15 minutes until 8pm during the week.

The Deputy Director-General said all local services and the Rapid 10 were running at least every 30 minutes and weekend services remained the same.

“Keeping the interim timetable in place through the next phases of Canberra’s re-opening is important to ensure we can deliver reliable services for those who need them,” he said.

“This contingency takes into consideration any potential reduction in staff availability as the community continues to comply with ACT Health directions.”

Mr McHugh said the timetable set to commence on Monday would still see 4,523 services delivered daily during the week, 1,753 services on Saturday and 1,205 on Sunday.

He said light rail was continuing to run as normal but would see a timetable change from 1 November to extend the afternoon peak period and increase service frequency on Sunday mornings, with services to run every 15 minutes from 7am to 11.30pm.

“This will help with physical distancing on board at busier times,” Mr McHugh said.
