The Canberra Liberals have made election promises ahead of this month’s ACT Legislative Assembly election to provide more accessible early childhood education, build new dog parks, support playgroups and build a dedicated school for trades.
Leader of the Liberals, Alistair Coe said that if elected, the Liberals would make childhood education more affordable and accessible for Canberra families, and educators would be better supported with secured annual funding for professional development.
“A Canberra Liberals Government will make it easier for early learning and childcare centres to operate in the ACT to put even more downward pressure on childcare fees,” Mr Coe said.
He said his party would build two new dog parks for Kurrajong residents and their pets to enjoy.
He said Canberra Liberals would support play-based early learning through parent and carer-led playgroups by providing secured annual funding for ACT Playgroups over the next term of government.
Mr Coe said his party would also deliver a dedicated school for excellence in construction and the trades to provide young Canberrans with more career pathways outside of the university pathway.
“Our plan to create a dedicated high school for Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 school students will focus on vocational training in construction and trades, whilst meeting the Australian school curriculum and meeting all the requirements of the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies,” he said.
He said only accredited packages would be on offer, allowing students to graduate from school with vocational qualifications.
