Canberrans are to travel differently over the festive season with Transport Canberra to implement its summer holiday bus timetable from next Monday (19 December).

Asking that people plan ahead, Transport Canberra said the changes, which will be in place until 29 January, had been designed to meet the city’s reduced demand over the holiday period.

“Local services run 30 minutes on weekdays and every hour during the evenings (from 8pm),” Transport Canberra said.

“The Rapid 10 will run every 15 minutes during morning and afternoon peaks, every 30 minutes for off‑peak and hourly in the evenings (from 8pm),” it said.

“All other Rapids will run at least every 15 minutes on weekdays and at least every 30 minutes in the evenings (from 8pm).”

Transport Canberra said public holidays would be serviced by a Sunday timetable during the period, except Christmas Day, where travel would be free on both bus and light rail services.

It said the Christmas Day bus timetable would run from 7:30am to 5:00pm, with local services running every two hours, the R4 every 30 minutes and all other rapid services every hour.

“Just tap on and off on the day and your card will register a $0 balance,” the Directorate said.

“Don’t have MyWay? Just hop on and off services – no need to pay.”

Transport Canberra said light rail services had been extended for New Year’s Eve with the last service departing from Gungahlin Place stop at 1:00am and Alinga Street stop at 1:30am.

It said light rail services would run every 10 minutes from 4:30pm from Gungahlin Place stop and 5:00pm from Alinga Street stop on 31 December.
