CAMBODIA: Exams suspended pending reforms

Cambodian Prime Minister, Hun Manet has ordered the suspension of this year’s examinations for Public Service entry, saying he wants a new mechanism that ensures accuracy, transparency and justice.

His decision comes after conferring with three Ministries directly concerned with preparations for the annual examination.

“Since the recruitment of Civil Servants is an important task related to the reform of our public functions in the new mandate, I have ordered the suspension of recruitment for the Civil Service for the remainder of 2023,” the Prime Minister said.

The country’s examination system, from school level upward, has long been plagued by widespread cheating and corruption where paying a bribe is more effective than good work in gaining a passing mark.
