The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is to fast-track the deployment of extra officers to the new police facility at Caloundra South.
QPS said the intention was to deploy an extra 10 officers, five this financial year and five in the next.
It said once the new facility was built and established, it was expected that at least 30 officers would be based there, in addition to the existing staff at Caloundra Police Station which would remain at its current location.
QPS said this would not only double the number of police facilities in the Caloundra area, but would also nearly double the total number of police officers based in this community over time.
Minister for Police, Mark Ryan said these allocations were part of a watershed investment in policing across Queensland that would result in the delivery of an extra 2,025 police personnel and a $300 million capital works program.
“Construction of a new facility at Nambour is currently under way, the future construction of a new Cooroy Police Station is planned and Mobile Police Beats have been deployed to the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Ryan said.
“These investments reflect the fact that it is a growing region.”
Commissioner for Police at QPS, Katarina Carroll said the Sunshine Coast and, in particular, the Caloundra area, continued to see rapid growth in population and infrastructure.
“The deployment of additional officers to Caloundra will ensure the QPS is building capability in the area for the future while meeting the needs of the growing community,” Commissioner Carroll said.
