The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s (DELWP) Growing Suburbs Fund has completed its 100th project, the $21.5 million Hume Global Learning Centre in Sunbury.

Minister for Local Government, Adem Somyurek announced the milestone which supports community facilities, enhanced services and greater opportunities in Melbourne’s rapidly-growing interface councils.

“The Hume Global Learning Centre is a state-of-the-art library and community education space built on the site of the old Sunbury Library,” Mr Somyurek said.

“The completed Centre includes space for IT skills courses, community events, exhibitions, seminars and co-working as well as expanded library collections.”

Mr Somyurek said the centre was delivered by the Hume City Council, which contributed $18.5 million towards the cost.

“Over the last four years, the Growing Suburbs Fund has backed more than 160 projects, invested $200 million and leveraged a combined investment of $520 million – creating more than 5,400 jobs,” he said.

“The Fund has invested more than $19.5 million into the Hume City Council area for 17 different projects.”

He said the Growing Suburbs Fund was creating a significant legacy.

“Each of these 100 projects help deliver stronger communities in our fastest-growing suburbs.”

“The Global Learning Centre is a fitting place to mark 100 completed projects – it’s high-tech, forward-looking and sure to be popular with families,” Mr Somyurek said.
