Some of the nation’s brightest minds considered the Brisbane 2032 Legacy Plan during a forum at the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association earlier this month.
The gathering discussed almost 12,000 ideas collected through a three-month national Hopes and Dreams survey campaign.
Ideas submitted included the environment, infrastructure, sport and physical activity, First Nations people and culture, transport, health and wellbeing, community connections, jobs and the economy, innovation and technology, diversity, equality and inclusion.
People throughout Australia will have the opportunity to provide feedback on all these ideas during public consultations in April and May.
The Brisbane 2032 Legacy Plan will then be developed and released later in the year.
State Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Legacy process was one way of ensuring that as many people as possible could share their ideas and the pride of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Ms Palaszczuk was supported by the Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport, Stirling Hinchliffe who said the green and gold road to Brisbane 2032 would transform the State forever.
“Its legacy can profoundly shape our communities, our city, region and nation,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“However, that transformation won’t just happen — it will take thoughtful planning and we need Queenslanders and Australians to work with us on that.”
President of the Australian Olympic Committee, Ian Chesterman said sport had served Australia well in the past, but the foundations of the system had been weakened since Sydney 2000.
“The greatest legacy of the Brisbane 2032 Games will be to rebuild a sports ecosystem that can serve our young people and build a healthier population and stronger communities,” Mr Chesterman said.
