Libraries ACT re-welcomed Canberra’s bookworms to three of its libraries yesterday (20 October), reopening branches at Belconnen, Gungahlin and Tuggeranong.
Acting Executive Branch Manager at Libraries ACT, Dani Wickman said three of the Libraries’ 10 branches were open throughout the week for people to visit and access library services.
“We know Canberrans love their local libraries and have been waiting for branches to re-open, so we thank them for their patience,” Ms Wickman said.
“More branches will open their doors from 1 November 2021 as we work to ensure staff and members can visit branches as safely as possible,” she said.
“Members wishing to use a computer can do so without making a booking, subject to computer availability, however, there will be restrictions in place for all users of the library when visiting.”
Ms Wickman said physical distancing measures were in place and the reopened branches were capped at no more than 25 people.
The Acting Executive Branch Manager said visits were limited to 30 minutes; masks were required to be worn; members would need to use the Check in CBR App on arrival; and community rooms remained closed.
She also reminded library members that due dates on borrowed items had been extended.
“We are anticipating library members are excited to return to a branch, but there is no rush for members to return items as the due date has been extended to 30 November,” Ms Wickman said.
“This is also important to note because return chutes will initially only be open at the three library branches that are re-opening.”
She said Libraries ACT’s Belconnen, Gungahlin and Tuggeranong branches were open from 10am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday, 10am – 4pm on Saturdays and 12pm – 4pm on Sundays.
