Having diabetes can complicate your plans for healthy eating, but not according to chef Michael Moore.

He has a passion for great food and healthy living, but was shocked to discover he had diabetes. Nevertheless, he was determined to continue living his life as a diabetic without compromising on food.

“This is not a ‘diet book’, it is a collection of recipes developed over time to help keep diabetics, anyone who has suffered a stroke, or people who just want to eat good food while looking after your health on track without compromising on tasty foods.”

“No more do you have to be stuck in a gastronomic wilderness of bland and dull meal ideas. Instead, you can have great food that’s unexpected and exciting. It’s all about keeping your blood sugar under control and balancing the ingredients to help you maintain good health.”

Blood Sugar Healthy Meals is a great compilation of delicious dishes (for all day eating) that will inspire you to enjoy while focusing on your health. The recipes are easy to follow and great for every diabetic who doesn’t want to compromise on delicious food.

Although Moore’s own diet is more savoury these days, he does eat sweet treats – and cuts down on the quantity – meaning he appreciates them more than ever.

“When I have piece of chocolate cake it’s a small slice and I sit down and really enjoy it because it’s a real treat,” he says. “For anyone on a healthy diet a treat can be seen as negative or something naughty, but I think treats are important and if you build them into your diet there’s a better chance of your staying on track.”

Try one of these sweet treats featured in the book: Upside-Down Apple & Pear Crunch or Baked Strawberry, Lime & Quinoa Custard Pudding.

Moore works at keeping his own diet – blood sugar-friendly – making sure to fit exercise into his schedule as a priority.

“When my trainer asked me ‘what do you want to achieve?’ I said, to live as long as possible.”
