A newly upgraded play space has been officially opened at Hughes Primary School in the Woden Valley.
The play space includes new equipment and a protective shade sail, allowing the young students to play and learn safely while also protected from the elements.
Principal of Hughes Primary School, Nina McCabe said the upgrades would improve the overall learning and play space available at the preschool.
“The students are thrilled with it; they love the new slide and the suspension bridge,” Ms McCabe said.
“It’s fantastic to see the imaginative games the students are creating and enjoying,” she said.
“This sort of space is vital for a young student’s development and it is great to see these upgrades completed at Hughes Primary School.”
She said preschool students were involved throughout the project, providing ideas in the initial stages and keenly watching the installation unfold.
“The official opening event was also organised by the students themselves, who made a welcome sign, designated VIP seating and invited members of the school community,” Ms McCabe said.
“Having students provide their voice and efforts into the process not only ensured their excitement about the project but was also a valuable learning experience.”
The upgraded play space was a collaborative project facilitated between Hughes Primary School and the ACT Education Directorate.
