Procurement and contract management staff and teams from throughout the Public Service have been invited to enter the second Buy Queensland Buyer Awards which recognise excellence in planning and spending public money to solve business needs.

The Awards are a way of acknowledging this contribution — a tribute to those whose work has resulted in beneficial outcomes for Queenslanders.

Public sector staff are invited to nominate their peers, leaders (or themselves) for outstanding procurement that either substantially occurred or was completed since January 2022.

Nominations can be made in the following categories:

* Excellence in delivering on objectives of Queensland Procurement Policy;

* Excellence in Procurement – Small Team or Individual;

* Excellence in Procurement – Large Team;

* Excellence in Procurement – Best New Entrant;

* Excellence in Procurement – Leadership;

* Innovation in Procurement, and

* Queensland Government Procurement Deputy Director-General’s Award.

At the first Buy Queensland Buyer Awards, held at the State Library of Queensland in 2022, there were six highly commended award recipients and seven winners across four categories.

Included among the winners was Jose Puttanani from the Department of Resources for his strategic, flexible, innovative and collaborative work on the Abandoned Mines Lands Program which resulted in improvements to the environment.

The Brisbane Flood Recovery team from the Department of Transport and Main Roads was awarded for its quick, skilled emergency procurement response during the February 2022 floods.

Also awarded was the QBuild South-East Queensland Procurement team from the Department of Energy and Public Works for supporting high-level procurement and cultural changes.

The Deputy Director General’s Award for Procurement Excellence went to Andrew Friend and Jose Puttanani from the Department of Resources for their collaborative work to enhance the participation of local and small and medium enterprises in the Abandoned Mines Lands Program.

Nominations for the 2023 Awards can be made until 21 March with nominations on the Yoursay website at this PS News link.
