If there’s one news report PS News reports more than one, it’s the regular report of auditors reporting the reports of their audits for everyone to see.
As a general rule, the comments of auditors and ombudsmen when critical of the public sector are the only critical commentaries PS News reports as it has as its positive policy No. 1 to avoid countering the critical and contrary commentaries of the Public Sector as the rest of the media world is critical, cutting, condemning, censorious and calumniatory for us all!
It is with interest therefore that PS-sssst! notes that some Auditors-General go to the trouble of naming their vitally important audit teams while other AGs choose not to do so.
PS-sssst! wonders: Why?
From a modern open-all, tell-all and show-all front, naming the team is a positive – and informative – addition to a report as it shows who was primarily responsible for a work.
The AG still leads the field and takes the credit of course, but everyone reading the report knows that he or she didn’t do the whole report alone.
Just a thought. If anyone knows why some auditors do and some don’t, please let us know. PS-sssst! is sure many other readers, and possibly hard-working auditors would like to know too.

Time to look back to see what we were doing this week a year ago, if only to show Jan Borrie – the genius who compiles the popular ‘PS from the PaSt’ section that takes us back 10 years – that the multi-talented PS-sssst! could dig through time if there’s nothing else to dig through!
This week in 2022 the over-skills of the ever-active Philomena S were let loose on the English language to show how much fun one can have stumbling on him- or herself.
This week Philomena exposes transport.
“When you transport something by car it’s called a shipment” she pointed out movingly.
“But when you transport something by a ship it’s called a cargo!”

Ageing Department
A year earlier, in 2021 it was the Federal Department’s 50th anniversary.
PS-sssst! celebrated it this way:
Congratulations this week to the Federal Government’s closest-to-politics agency – The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet – which officially turns 50 years old this week.
Created on 12 March 1971, the affectionately abbreviated PM&C was created by merging the Prime Minister’s Department – born in 1911 – with the Department of the Cabinet Office which was set up just three years earlier in 1968.
But of most interest to the apparatchiks amongst us could well be the fact that the 50 significant years since its creation there have been more Secretaries of PM& C (13) than there have been Australian Prime Ministers (11).
Well worth a bet at the next dinner party!
A live giveaway!
Another go, another giveaway from Rama Gaind this week, offering the western cowboy DVD The Old Way as the prize, starring Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage as the cold-blooded gunslinger Colton Briggs trying to become a respectable family man.
To relieve Rama of her copies of the film, all we needed to be was one of three readers to answer Rama’s riddle and tell her who the unlikely partner with whom Nicolas Cage is forced to take up arms was.
The unlikely partner was his 12-year-old daughter, Brooke (played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and the correct answer came from Kate W from the Western Australian Department of Transport, Gregory C from the Australian Taxation Office, and Jennifer H in the Queensland Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy, all of whom managed to be first with the right answer to convince the judge.
Congratulations to all the winners and a very welcome thanks to everyone who took part in Rama’s weekly riotous ruckas!
