Melbourne’s Pierce Brothers will be releasing their debut album, Atlas Shoulders, on 26 October.

I have favourably reviewed their EP releases and like many people I’ve eagerly awaited this album.

On a first listen I can say I’m not disappointed.

The Pierce Brothers inhabit the pop/folk crossover genres and they’ve built a considerable following both here in Australia and internationally.

They are currently touring the UK and Europe supporting Tash Sultana as well as playing their own sold-out headline shows.

It is their international recognition that’s particularly impressive.

Over the past year the brothers have extensively toured Europe, South Africa and America and in the process their profile has grown to the point that they are one of the hottest new acts on the international circuit.

They have amassed 7 million global streams and that figure is growing rapidly.

Atlas Shoulders was written while they’ve been on tour and it brings together stories and influences they’ve experienced on the road.

The first single from the album, Back End Roads, has started to get some air time on Australian radio and it’s sure to become a fan favourite.

It features a drum track reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams but a melody that is embedded in the Australian folk realm.

It is a song about one of their favourite places, Wilson’s Promontory in Victoria and about getting away from it all.

It’s a mellow summer anthem, just in time for the festive season.

The boys have certainly honed their songwriting craft over the years of constant touring.

This album is full of catchy hooks and sing along tunes. There are many potential singles.

Love You Broke, with its strong chorus and rhythm is a standout.
