The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has produced two new videos to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people take control of their money and get help with their debts when they need it.
ASIC created the videos after its Indigenous Outreach Program (IOP) spoke to people in Indigenous communities who said they felt shame about facing their debt problems and did not know where to go for help.
“ASIC’s Indigenous Outreach Program spoke to people in Indigenous communities about the financial issues that affect them and people said they needed help,” the Commission said.
“They also said they were struggling to deal with pressure from family and friends when it came to managing and sharing money.”
It said the new videos followed the journeys of Uncle Charlie and Lisa as they learn how to take control of their money to look after themselves and their families.
The new 2-minute videos can be accessed on ASIC’s MoneySmart website at this PS News link for the video entitled Sorting out your money problems and this link for the video Dealing with family pressure about money.
