The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) has released a new analysis software tool to help inform decision-making and improve data-driven innovation generally.

ASD’s Constellation is now available for free, offering policy-makers and researchers a breakthrough in solving large and complex problems in a simple and intuitive way.

Director-General of ASD, Mike Burgess said Constellation could be used to identify trends and patterns in complex datasets, and could handle billions of inputs.

“It allows users to import data in many different formats and presents that information in multiple graphic views to enable deeper analysis,” Mr Burgess said.

“Putting this powerful software into the open source community is ASD’s way of giving back to the community. The sky really is the limit with Constellation.”

He hoped the tool would help generate scientific and other breakthroughs that would benefit all Australians.”

Constellation can be used by industry, academia, Governments, research facilities or individuals to solve some of Australia’s greatest data-driven challenges,” Mr Burgess said.

“The software can be used to understand patterns in any rich feature dataset, including to analyse the spread of disease or to explore chemical compositions.”

He said the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s Data61, the data and digital specialist arm of Australia’s national science Agency, assisted with the transition of Constellation to an open source model.
