The Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) has published details of the social media channels it makes use of with an invitation for members of the APS to interact with it.

The APSC said it used Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn accounts to distribute and share information relating to the Commission and the Australian Public Service.

“We monitor these social media accounts and will respond to genuine enquiries during business hours,” the Commission said.

It said that by accessing its social media pages, members of the APS would be required to agree with the terms and conditions of the social media platform and as well as others it has put in place.

“We do not endorse or support the comments, opinions or statements posted by users on our social media accounts,” the APSC said.

It said any information or material placed online by users, including advice and opinions, were the views and responsibilities of those users and did not represent the views of the Commission.

“As a user of our social media sites, you may express your views, comments, ideas, insights, and criticisms about the Australian Public Service,” it said.

It set out some guidelines to be followed however, including that users should protect their personal privacy and that of others; refrain from impersonating or falsely representing other people; and not being abusive, defamatory or insulting in their comments.

It would also require participants to avoid promoting commercial interests; to steer clear of including internet addresses or email addresses; and to desist from making unproven or unsupported accusations or to incite hatred.

It said users of the social media platforms should abide by the APS Code of Conduct and the Commission’s protocols for online media participation.
