Finches feature on stamps

The latest stamp issue from Australia Post celebrates the diverse beauty of Australian finches.

Featured on the four $1 stamps are the blue-faced parrot finch (Erythrura trichroa), the double-barred finch (Taeniopygia bichenovii), the star finch (Neochmia ruficauda) and the zebra Finch (Taeniopygia guttata).

The stamps were designed by John White of the Australia Post Design Studio from the illustrations of wildlife artist Kevin Stead, who is a frequent contributor to Australian Geographic magazine.


Anzac Day bookings open

The Australian War Memorial has opened bookings for members of the public to attend its 2018 Anzac Day National Ceremony.

It said spaces were limited, and special seating hads been reserved for World War II veterans.

Seating for mobility-impaired people is accessible via flat ground.

The Memorial said its Dawn Service was a standing ceremony, so bookings were not required.

Transport ACT will be running free shuttle buses from various locations to the ceremonies.


New seat for Canberra

The Australian Electoral Commission has announced proposed new electoral divisions for the ACT, increasing the number of Federal seats from two to three.

Under the proposal, the ACT would be divided into northern, central and southern electoral divisions.

“Canberra” and “Fenner” would be retained as ACT division names, with “Bean” becoming the name of a third ACT electoral division, recognising war historian Charles Edwin Woodrow Bean.
