Flexible bus drivers needed
Transport Canberra is looking for full-time, part-time and casual drivers with excellent customer service skills to join its Flexible Bus Service team.
Applications are invited from people interested in a career that is rewarding and helps the special needs community, as well as contributing to the public transport experience of the Canberra community.
Applications are now open on jobs.act.gov.au and close on 27 April.
Inquiry into building quality
The Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Economic Development and Tourism is to hold an inquiry into building quality in the ACT.
Chair of the Committee, Jeremy Hanson MLA said there had been community concern about building quality, particularly in newer apartment developments.
“Poor building quality can cause significant stress and losses to owners and occupiers,” Mr Hanson said.
“The need for rectification works can also impose significant economic costs on the construction industry and the ACT economy.”
The Committee will receive written submissions from stakeholders and the general public until 6 July.
Numbers out on Festival
Next year’s National Multicultural Festival is to be held from 15 to 17 February.
Results from a survey of 1,000 ACT households following this year’s Festival show attendance increased from 17.7 per cent of surveyed households in 2010 to 41 per cent of households in 2018.
Saturday continued to be the Festival’s most popular day, with 65.8 per cent of Festival goers attending on that day, compared with 22.5 per cent on Sunday and 28.7 per cent on Friday.
The proportion of attendees who identify as being from a multicultural or linguistically diverse background has also increased, up from 22.4 per cent in 2010 to 33.2 per cent in 2018.
New curbs on donations
The ACT Attorney-General, Gordon Ramsay has announced the release of the report of the Legislative Assembly’s Select Committee on the 2016 ACT Election and Electoral Act, saying changes would be made to the political donations system.
He said the system needed to be more transparent and reiterated the Government’s commitment to banning political donations from property developers.
As part of the changes, all fundraising contributions will be considered gifts, which candidates will be required to disclose.
Comment open on Curtin shops
Changes to the Curtin Group Centre Draft Master Plan have been released for public comment.
The changes give greater priority to the Group Centre, open space, the value of the courtyard as a hub, the scale of future development and an understanding of the economics of investment in the area.
