Airservices Australia has launched a recruitment drive for firefighters to be stationed at 26 of the nation’s busiest airports.
Airservices’ Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Services Chief Fire Officer, Glenn Wood said aspiring firefighters needed to be extremely fit and strong to make the cut, with a passion for staying fit and helping others in a highly professional team.
“Our Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) is challenging to make sure we get the best of those who apply, and that the candidates can meet the physical demands of this exciting job,” Chief Officer Wood said.
“Being an aviation firefighter is no ordinary job and comes with great benefits such as flexible hours, job security and the satisfaction that comes with keeping travellers safe every day.”
He said many Airservices firefighters stayed in the job for their entire working lives.
Applications will be open until 11 April and successful applicants will undertake a 15-week fully-paid training course in Melbourne in either November 2018 or March 2019 before graduates take up a position at their fire station.
The Agency said it needed up to 48 aviation rescue firefighters around the country but it was unlikely there would be positions available at the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Ballina, Sunshine Coast, Coffs Harbour, Perth, Adelaide, Ayers Rock or Newman.
More information and details on how to apply for the positions can be accessed at the Airservices website at this PS News link.
