Young farmers have been invited to learn the ins and outs of managing money, debt and talking to banks by attending an online workshop to be hosted by Agriculture Victoria later this month.

Agriculture Victoria said the 90-minute online Farm Finance – Getting Prepared workshop would help young farmers understand the finance options available to achieve their goals.

“The online workshop will also look at how to set realistic goals and whether buying land is necessary to get started in agriculture,” Agriculture Victoria said.

“Farmers will also be guided through what they need to think about before approaching a bank, and what they can expect when it comes to approval processes,” it said.

Agriculture Victoria said the online workshop would be free to attend on 24 July at 12.30pm, with the session recorded and made available for those who registered.

It said Agribusiness expert with consultant company ORM, Jane Foster would host the event bringing with her a wealth of experience in farm debt management and financial data analysis.

Coordinator of the Young Farmer Project at Agriculture Victoria, Sarah Wallis said Ms Foster had worked at NAB for over a decade and knew the agribusiness sector “inside out”.

“Young farmers should register for this online workshop to learn and understand the financial lingo so they can talk to banks and other finance partners, plan their futures and make it happen,” Ms Wallis said.

Further information on how to register for the event can be accessed at this PS News link.
