Adelaide Metro customers have been warned to ignore an SMS message claiming to be from Adelaide Metro or Transport-GOV and fraudulently seeking credit card details.

According to Adelaide Metro the message claims that on the passenger’s recent trip their credit card could not be processed and it requests they click on the link again to pay it now.

Some messages warn that a $330 penalty will apply if the bill was not paid within three business days.

Adelaide Metro can confirm this is a scam.

“These messages have been sent from an unknown third party – we can assure customers that Adelaide Metro’s own accounts and databases have NOT been compromised,” it said.

“Adelaide Metro will never contact you asking for your credit card details,” it said.

“Customers are requested to not click on the link and delete the message.”

It advised that if anyone had clicked on the link they should contact their financial institution immediately.

Adelaide Metro will also investigate the incident.

It said that for more information about metroCARD or Adelaide Metro services, customers can contact Adelaide Metro on 1300 311 108 (open 7am-8am daily) or visit adelaidemetro.com.au
