Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry has invited applications for grants under the 2019 Nature Play Grants Program.

The grants are for projects that support children to play outdoors, live active lives and increase participation in activities that are nature based.

Ms Berry said organisations were invited to apply for up to $15,000 to spend in a variety of areas including equipment, promotions, training and small capital projects.

She said since launching Nature Play in 2016, the Government had allocated funds to more than 20 projects that connected children and their families with organisations and resources that offered quality nature-based outdoor recreation activities.

“Sticks and Stones Nature Playgroup received a grant in the 2018 round and engages between 40 to 60 children, aged zero to five years old, in each session,” Ms Berry said.

“The playgroup is held at Southern Cross Early Childhood School in Scullin and provides a variety of active, creative and imaginative play in the form of nature kitchens, crafting, cubby building and exploring with magnifying glasses.

She said applications for the Nature Play Grants Program would close on 5 April.

Further information on the grants and how to apply for them can be accessed at this PS News link.
