The Minister for Seniors and Veterans, Gordon Ramsay has opened applications for grants to promote both seniors’ and veterans’ activities.
Organisations seeking to promote the wellbeing of older Canberrans can apply for the latest round of Seniors Grants following an $80,000 allocation in the 2019-20 program.
Mr Ramsay said the program provided an opportunity for community organisations to put forward innovative projects that encouraged older Canberrans to participate in new ventures and initiatives.
“Previous grants have been used to counter elder abuse through individual advocacy and community education; provided interactive and hands-on healthy eating workshops, and for the establishment of a community garden,” the Minister said.
He said a total of $80,000 had also been made available for ACT veterans through a series of grants to promote participation in activities outside the Defence Forces.
He said these particular grants were designed for community organisations to assist veterans by improving employment capability as well as promoting a culture of social inclusion.
“The grants of up to $10,000 are available to organisations that have the capacity to link veterans and their families with programs that support their wellbeing,” Mr Ramsay said.
Applications for both programs close on 2 September and can be made from this PS News link.
