Several Government services are to be closed next week for the National Day of Mourning and National public holiday to mourn the passing of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II.

Announcing the changes, the local Government said the Queen would be commemorated in Canberra with a National Memorial Service at 11am on Thursday (22 September) at Parliament House

It said the Malcolm Fraser Bridge, The Canberra Times Fountain and light rail stops would be lit in purple until midnight that day.

“A condolence book for Her Majesty The Queen is available to sign at the ACT Legislative Assembly,” the Government said.

“Members of the public are welcome to add their messages to the book by visiting the Assembly Building foyer on London Circuit between 8.30am and 5pm, weekdays,” it said.

“Condolence books are also available in the Marble Foyer at Australian Parliament House and at Government House Canberra.”

It said ACT public schools would be closed on the day, along with Access Canberra Service Centres in Dickson, Mitchell, and the Hume Motor Vehicle Inspection Station.

Territory’s buses are to operate to a Sunday timetable and one-minute of silence is to be observed at Floriade’s Stage 88 at 11am.

“The Access Canberra Contact Centre will be operating under public holiday arrangements and will be open from 9am to 5pm,” the Government said.

“Outside these times, the Access Canberra Contact Centre will be still open to report urgent public safety issues like fallen trees and faulty traffic lights.”
