The local Jobs for Canberrans program has reached a major milestone with 500 Canberrans now employed in the ACT Public Service.

Announced by Chief Minister, Andrew Barr and Attorney-General, Gordon Ramsay the program’s jobs are targeted at Canberrans who lost their usual job due to COVID-19 but are ineligible for the Commonwealth’s Jobkeeper program.

Mr Ramsay said that following the success of the program, additional funding had been allocated to create more temporary positions in the ACT public service.

“The Government is extending the program by a further $500,000,” Mr Ramsay said.

“Access Canberra will receive the funding with all roles to assist with increased service delivery for the local community,” he said.

“Our city relies on the services the Government provides, and now more than ever we need keep growing our capacity to support our community.”

Mr Ramsay said the new employees would add to the staff of the COVID-19 Helpline and provide front-line communications to the Canberra community.

“Access Canberra has played such a critical role for our community during COVID-19 and I’m pleased that the Jobs for Canberrans recruits have contributed so significantly,” he said.

He said the new funding would see the Access Canberra Jobs for Canberrans contingent grow to over 35 new employees.
